Young Leaders Society's NUML Chapter mobilised 50+ student volunteers during Ramadan 2025 to deliver Iftars to daily-wage workers and marginalised families across Islamabad.
In a remarkable display of community spirit, the Young Leaders Society NUML Chapter organised a transformative Iftar Drive during Ramadan 2025, delivering nourishment and hope to hundreds of individuals across Islamabad. The initiative embodied the essence of Ramadan โ generosity, empathy, and collective action โ and demonstrated what young leaders can accomplish when motivated by purpose.
The project began weeks before Ramadan, with the NUML team conducting extensive planning sessions to identify communities most in need. Through careful coordination with local mosques and community centres, the chapter mapped distribution points across the city to ensure their efforts reached both the urban poor and marginalised groups often overlooked during the holy month.
Distribution day saw an inspiring mobilisation of over 50 volunteers who transformed the NUML campus into a hub of purposeful activity. Teams worked in perfect synchronisation โ designated crews handled packaging, logistics, and distribution of meal boxes containing dates, fresh fruit, pakoras, samosas, and biryani.
Volunteers also visited construction sites to serve daily-wage workers. One volunteer shared: "When an elderly man kissed my hand and said this was his first proper Iftar in days, every hour of preparation felt worthwhile."
The initiative delivered on multiple dimensions:
Chapter President Tehmina Kousar announced that the chapter has already begun planning expanded efforts for the following year, including regular community kitchens and advocacy programmes addressing food insecurity in Islamabad.
The NUML Iftar Drive is a proof of concept: when young leaders are given autonomy and a mission, they deliver outcomes that rival professional organisations. Young Leaders Society will continue to support chapter-led community initiatives as a core part of its programming.
